Submarine "Velikiye Luki" with the support of ships and aircraft of the Baltic Fleet continues factory sea trials

The diesel-electric submarine "Velikiye Luki" of Project 677 is undergoing checks of systems and mechanisms, torpedo-missile armament and maneuverability at various speeds

In the Baltic Sea, factory sea trials of the large diesel-electric submarine (DESL) "Velikiye Luki" of Project 677, built at the "Admiralty Shipyards" enterprise, continue. The press service of the enterprise reported that the submarine's crew, together with representatives of the industry, are checking the operability of the ship's systems and mechanisms, as well as testing torpedo-missile armament.

At the marine ranges of the Baltic Fleet, the electric propulsion systems, the effectiveness of hydroacoustic complexes, as well as technical means and devices at the working depth are being tested.

Ships and support vessels of the Baltic Fleet, as well as naval aviation of the Baltic Fleet, are involved in the tests.

DESL "Kronshtadt" Project 677 "Lada"

Submarines of the "Lada" project, to which "Velikiye Luki" belongs, are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, protect naval bases and sea communications, as well as launch missile strikes against enemy coastal targets. The DESL of the project are equipped with "Caliber" cruise missiles and are characterized by a low noise level, the ability to develop a speed of more than 20 knots and dive to a depth of over 300 meters.

As part of the tests, the noise direction finding acoustic arrays of the "Lira" hydroacoustic complex are being checked, as well as torpedo-missile armament, including UGST "Fizik", UGST-M "Fizik-2" and USET-80K torpedoes.

It should be noted that the acoustic signature of the submarine is reduced to 35-40 dB due to the low-cavitation propeller and sound-absorbing hull coatings.

The submarine is also equipped with a multispectral optoelectronic complex "Parus-98E" for monitoring the water surface, low-altitude sectors of the airspace and coastal objects. However, despite the declared development of anaerobic air-independent power plants, submarines of this series still require surfacing every 2-3 days to recharge batteries.

It should be recalled that the DESL "Velikiye Luki" was laid down back in 2006 under the name "Sevastopol", but in 2015 the project was changed taking into account the experience of operating the lead submarine "St. Petersburg". As a result, the submarine was re-laid. On December 23, 2022, "Velikiye Luki" was launched. After that, the submarine continued to be completed afloat.
It should be recalled that the first serial non-nuclear submarine of Project 677 — "Kronshtadt" entered service in January of this year.
