Engine repairs of large military equipment are now also carried out near the front line. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, work on the restoration, repair and modernization of equipment is carried out around the clock. A serviceman of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the commander of a repair company with the call sign «Sobol», spoke about how this happens.

According to him, after the vehicle breaks down, it is evacuated by a special repair and evacuation group. The equipment arrives at the SPPM ( сборный пункт поврежденных машин - assembly point for damaged vehicles) for repair and restoration. At the same time, the SPPM has been working not only with the hull and other parts, but also with engines for 5-6 months. There are also specialists in the repair of weapons.

After dismantling the engine from damaged vehicles, we give these units, engines and boxes to the unit for the repair of units and assemblies. They inspect them, see what is wrong there, and if the engine block itself is not damaged, we change everything else ourselves. Accordingly, we restore both engines and gearboxes. This, of course, increases the repair time itself, but reduces the repair resource. We do not involve factories in the manufacture of engines and boxes of equipment, gearboxes, we restore it all ourselves. Also, cars with faulty weapons, fire control systems come to us, we repair the electrical installation kit. We have highly qualified electricians in the companies, there is a separate company for the repair of automotive equipment, a company for the repair of armored vehicles, which deal specifically with electrical wiring malfunctions.

In parallel with this, other repairs are being carried out for the damaged vehicle. For example, for the T-72B, which was stationed at the SPPM after evacuation, it was necessary to dismantle the turret, dismantle the fuel tank, weld the fuel tank and in the reverse order - install the fuel tank, install the turret. Now it is waiting for welding and straightening work on the turret, the installation of additional dynamic protection.
