Russian engineers have filed a patent application for an ejector seat for tanks. The rescue system is similar to that used in military aircraft to evacuate the crew. This was written by Daniel Górecki, a columnist for the Polish publication Interia.
The rescue of an aircraft crew occurs through the ejection of the seat using a pyrotechnic charge or rocket engine installed beneath it. After the parachute opens, the pilot makes a safe landing.
According to Interia, Russia wants to patent the same system for tanks. Judging by the drawings, the tank crew will be in an ejection capsule with a squib. It will be reinforced with curved armor plates. It is not known which tanks will be equipped with these rescue systems.
As for the practical aspects of implementing the new project, the Russians should think carefully about its profitability, since the introduction of such a solution could significantly increase the cost of tank production.
According to the journalist, installing ejector seats in a tank is much more difficult than building a «mangal». If the Russian authorities approve this patent, it will most likely be implemented in new tank models, Górecki concluded.
