The Ministry of Economy of Japan has expanded the list of goods prohibited for export to Russia. It added 164 categories, including motor oils. The ban will take effect on April 17.
Now, it is prohibited to import motor oils for cars, as well as batteries (lithium-ion and lithium-hybrid), photographic, optical, measuring, and high-precision equipment from Japan to Russia. Kayaks, fire boats, yachts, floating cranes, and even canoes are also banned.
Auto expert Maxim Kadakov commented on how the sanctions will affect Russian car enthusiasts.
If this is relevant to you, motor oils from Japan will become even more expensive
It should be recalled that these are not the first restrictions related to automotive equipment that the Japanese authorities have imposed on Russia. In 2022, Japan banned the shipment of trucks, dump trucks, and bulldozers.
The Japanese felt this was not enough, and in August 2023, a ban on the export of cars with engines larger than 1.9 liters and with hybrid power plants came into force. Foreign experts noted that vehicles from China and South Korea would replace the cars banned from supply in the Russian market.
