During exercises in the Barents Sea, the search and rescue team of the Northern Fleet practiced rescuing victims from a submarine using a Ka-27 helicopter. A paramedic evacuated a mock casualty from the submarine.
According to paramedic Alexander, the evacuation of the injured person involves descending onto the submarine on a winch, securing the patient, and lifting him aboard the helicopter. He emphasized that the rescue operation is very complex. The Ka-27 pilot must hover over the submarine with jeweler's precision. The success of the operation largely depends on his piloting skills. However, factors related to weather conditions are also taken into account.
About Naval Aviation of the Russian Navy
The Ka-27 is considered the main helicopter of the Russian Navy's naval aviation. The rotorcraft is designed to search for and rescue distressed aircraft and ship crews. It also delivers cargo. The anti-submarine version of the Ka-27 searches for, tracks, and engages enemy submarines with standard weapons.
Currently, all training exercises of the Northern Fleet's aviation units take into account combat experience. Military personnel are developing tactical techniques to combat drones, naval drones, and defend the fleet's basing points.
