На Урале выплавили первый слиток российского металлического тантала

Rosatom's Mining Division will be able to provide 100% of domestic production of tantalum, niobium, zirconium, neodymium, praseodymium, lanthanum, cerium, scandium

An experimental production of metallic tantalum has been launched at the Solikamsk Magnesium Plant (OJSC "SMZ", an enterprise of the Mining Division of Rosatom State Corporation). The first ingot of tantalum powder weighing 8 kilograms was smelted at the Yekaterinburg Non-Ferrous Metals Processing Plant (JSC "EZ OCM").

The metallic tantalum production project is part of the restoration of the complete production chain "from ore to products" in Russia. In this chain, the Lovozero Mining and Processing Plant, also part of Rosatom's Mining Division, extracts and enriches loparite ore containing tantalum. The Solikamsk Magnesium Plant processes loparite concentrate, producing tantalum pentachloride and pentoxide. At the same time, the plant uses a new technology for extracting rare earth metals.

In the near future, we will begin processing pentachlorides and pentoxides into metallic tantalum. This product will go to factories that will produce tantalum rolled products and capacitor powders for the Russian electronics industry. These factories include both JSC "EZ OCM" and enterprises of the Fuel Division of Rosatom State Corporation.
Ruslan Dimukhamedov, General Director of JSC "SMZ"

In the future, Rosatom's Mining Division intends to provide Russia with 100% domestic tantalum, niobium, zirconium, neodymium, praseodymium, lanthanum, cerium, scandium. It will also be able to cover about 60% of the country's needs for titanium-containing concentrates.
