Ultra-small submarines need to be rearmed to combat underwater drones, said Vladimir Maltsev, head of the All-Russian Fleet Support Movement (DPM).

Ultra-small submarines are needed by the Russian Navy, the expert believes. According to him, the country has such submarines for performing special tasks.

They can be used for research purposes and for sabotage, Maltsev noted. But the main feature of the boats should be their ability to counter sea drones.

According to the ranking of maritime powers, which is compiled annually at IMEMO RAS, Russia is in third place, behind China (1st place) and the USA (2nd place). At the same time, Russia has left these countries far behind in the development of the Arctic, and its icebreaker fleet is the largest on the planet. Experts also noted that the Russian Navy has extensive experience in conducting operations in the Arctic Ocean.
