AvtoVAZ CEO Maxim Sokolov stated that in 2023, 170 Lada X-Cross 5s (a rebranding of the FAW Bestune T77) were assembled at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg. The top manager did not elaborate on the fate of these cars, but an informed source claims that the project has been shut down.
The Chinese company FAW has refused to cooperate with AvtoVAZ on the production of the Lada X-Cross 5. It is known that 50 out of 170 cars were sold. The remaining 120 cars were taken to Tolyatti.
Half of them were refitted with winter tires and provided as company cars to the top management of the plant. According to the source, the remaining Lada X-Cross 5s will not be available for public sale.
The first production Lada X-Cross 5 rolled off the St. Petersburg assembly line on June 17, 2023. The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, stated at the time that the company would continue to localize the car created in cooperation with an Asian partner. According to the press service of AvtoVAZ, the start of sales of the Lada X-Cross 5 was scheduled for the third quarter of 2023.
