VR technologies helped Rosatom to approve documentation for nuclear fuel reloading machine

Immersive technologies demonstrate product components in 1:1 scale

The Central Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering (CDBME, part of Rosatom) has for the first time applied VR (virtual reality) technologies in the coordination of design documentation for a loading and unloading machine used for reloading nuclear fuel. The equipment is being prepared for a fast neutron reactor under construction in Dimitrovgrad, the Rosatom press service reported.

Thanks to immersive technologies, engineers can inspect the machine developed by CDBME from the inside, assess its dimensions and technical solutions. The VR platform demonstrates the constituent components of the product in 1:1 scale.

According to CDBME designer Nikolai Vasiliev, the models have a format that can be uploaded directly without wasting time on conversion. The functionality of the VR platform allows assembling equipment and training personnel.

Rosatom is also developing 3D printing technologies. Currently, engineers are working with test samples of parts for nuclear power plants created in this way.
