"One and a Half Airplanes." How the Production of Tu-214 is Reaching New Capacities

The Kazan Aviation Plant is being modernized, but a little more than one aircraft has been built by the end of the year

PJSC Tupolev, part of UAC, and, accordingly, Rostec, seems to be slightly behind schedule for the production of Tu-214 civilian aircraft.

According to sources of the Kommersant publication, instead of three planned aircraft, only one will be seen. And that one is not for commercial transportation, but for a special order: it will go either to the Russia Special Flight Detachment or the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The information that only one aircraft is almost ready for production by mid-December was also voiced in a recent interview by Vadim Korolev, Managing Director of PJSC Tupolev, answering a question about what is currently on the Kazan slipways. Some of the aircraft are incomplete and in the process of assembly.

One [Tu-214] is in the final assembly shop. Work on others is at the stage of unit assembly, panel assembly. I note that such work is launched for 4–5 machines.
Managing Director of PJSC Tupolev Vadim Korolev

He admitted in a conversation with BUSINESS Online that there are difficulties with accelerating construction, since the Kazan Aviation Plant "used to make an average of one and a half Tu-214s per year, and now the task is to increase it by an order of magnitude".

New workshops with a flow line similar to an automobile conveyor are already being laid and built in Kazan. Tupolev has significant plans for aircraft construction and increased production volumes. From 2025, the plant will produce ten, and from 2027, twenty civilian transport "Tushkas".

Also, the Tu-214 may have cargo, short and two-member versions, a military version is also possible.
