The state carrier Russian Railways (RZD) has offered automakers to deliver their products by rail due to rising tariffs for transporting cars by car carriers. This was reported in the company's press service.
Russian Railways noted that railway transportation tariffs are less dependent on the national currency exchange rate and are not as tied to the inflation rate as tariffs for transportation on public roads. Thus, car manufacturers will be able to predict the cost of delivering cars to dealerships and include it in the price.
The company emphasized that the current logistics infrastructure of railways allows delivering cars using car carriers on the "last mile" or providing a "door-to-door" service.
It was previously reported that Russian automakers faced a shortage of car carriers. This happened in 2022 against the backdrop of a reduction in the fleet of car carriers and the inability of foreign companies to work in Russia. The reasons for this situation also include a shortage of personnel - there are not enough drivers in the country. To solve the problem, it is planned to establish the production of domestic car carriers.
Earlier, Russian Railways commented on information about possible problems with foreign software in Sapsan trains. The company noted that domestic software is being developed in the Russian Federation, but the existing foreign software does not in any way affect the operation of Sapsans.
