Russian authorities may introduce a ban on parallel imports of computer equipment starting in 2024. This was stated by Kirill Menshov, Senior Vice President for IT at PJSC "Rostelecom", during a plenary session dedicated to the challenges of Russia's technological sovereignty, on the sidelines of the "Moscow Region Evenings" congress.
According to the top manager, domestic technologies are becoming "increasingly accessible". And those companies that did not want to switch to import-substituting solutions will still have to do so, Menshov believes.
"Rostelecom" stated that Russia now has analogues of some types of foreign equipment. In particular, server equipment and workstations. The production of laptops is "reaching a new level". In these niches, the need for parallel imports may be closed in the near future, the company summarized.
In June, it was reported that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, together with manufacturers of computer equipment, is discussing the possibility of parallel imports of products from more than 20 foreign brands to the Russian market. This includes products from Acer, IBM, and Dell. However, IT market participants claim that domestic analogues will not be enough to meet the demand.
Earlier, www1.ru wrote that the Beshtau company will build a full-cycle laptop production plant in the Rostov region.
