Россия запускает производство новой аварийно-спасательной радиостанции — импортозамещенной и с гораздо более высокой точностью

It is designed for the international satellite search and rescue system COSPAS-SARSAT

Yaroslavl Radio Plant, part of Roscosmos, is starting mass production of the new R-855S emergency rescue radio station for the international satellite search and rescue system COSPAS-SARSAT.

A special feature of the new radio device is that the built-in navigation receiver is of domestic production. Thanks to it, the radio station provides accurate transmission of the user's current coordinates in the emergency message, down to meters.

The high accuracy of the radio station's coordinate transmission is our great achievement, considering the fact that radio stations of previous generations had an accuracy of plus or minus five kilometers.
Alexander Sashov, General Director of Yaroslavl Radio Plant

R-855S is designed to transmit emergency signals by crews of airplanes and helicopters in emergency situations.

The first case of saving people with the help of the COSPAS-SARSAT system was recorded on September 10, 1982. Then, the Soviet satellite "Cosmos-1383" retransmitted a distress signal from a small plane that crashed in the mountains of Canada. The emergency signal was received by a Canadian ground station via satellite. As a result, three people were rescued.
