Il-114-300 Accelerates Towards Serial Production: Three Experimental Aircraft Continue Certification

From the first modernized prototype to two "from scratch" samples — Russia returns the regional airliner to the skies

On November 19, it became known that the Il-114-300 aircraft have already completed 90 out of 270 flights to complete certification. Three aircraft are involved in the tests, but only two of them were built "from scratch." Let's find out what these machines are and why their appearance is so important for domestic aviation.

Il-114-300, tail number 54115

The first experimental aircraft (OP-1, tail number 54114) was assembled in 2020 on the basis of a previously operated Il-114. It became the "flagship" of the test campaign, laying the foundation for evaluating new systems, design solutions, and modernized equipment.

The second sample (OP-2, tail number 54115) is the first Il-114-300, completely built from scratch as part of the updated project. Assembly was completed in 2023, and the first flight took place in 2024. This machine allows you to check not only flight performance, but also the manufacturability of serial assembly — a key factor for launching mass production.

The third experimental aircraft (OP-3, tail number 54116) joined the program in March 2025. Like OP-2, it is made "from scratch" and is used for an expanded set of ground and flight tests, including checking the resource and reliability of components in conditions close to operational.

Thus, the Il-114-300 test fleet includes both a modernized prototype and two completely new aircraft.

According to official data, the Il-114-300 is designed to carry up to 64 passengers with a crew of two pilots. Its maximum flight range reaches 2000 km, and with a full commercial load (about 7 tons), it will develop a speed of 450-500 km/h. The aircraft is equipped with serial Russian TV7-117ST-01 turboprop engines that have undergone the necessary modernization, with a power of about 2900 hp each.

It is noted that the new propeller AV-112-114 for the Il-114-300 aircraft has confirmed compliance with the requirements of airworthiness standards, received a type certificate and is ready for installation on aircraft.
