The Indian Air Force will soon decommission Soviet MiG-21 fighters and purchase French fourth-generation Dassault Rafale fighters instead of Russian fifth-generation Su-57 fighters. This was reported by military expert Maya Karlin in an article for The National Interest, citing sources.
Although India was interested in purchasing the Su-57, it now appears to be counting on France to strengthen its air defenses. According to reports, New Delhi will place an order for Rafale fighters.
At the same time, Karlin emphasizes that New Delhi has not yet officially confirmed the purchase of Rafale.
The Su-57 is fast, but it lacks the stealth technology possessed by its American competitors. The effective scattering area of the Russian fighter is larger than that of the F-35 and F-22 Raptor.
Karlin noted that the Dassault Rafale is the most popular aircraft in its class. The high demand for the French fighter is due to its reputation.
With a wide range of weapons, the Dassault Rafale can perform tasks to gain air superiority, support ground troops. It can take off from aircraft carriers and land bases.
