In Russia, the state contract for the supply of deeply modernized Tu-160 strategic bombers to the Russian Aerospace Forces continues to be implemented, including completely new Tu-160M2 aircraft. Production is underway at the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ), and in 2025, the Aerospace Forces (VKS) will receive four aircraft at once, it was reported in December 2024.
In Samara, serial production of updated NK-32-02 engines for the Tu-160M2 has been established. It is not known exactly how many Tu-160s are already in service with the army, but Western sources tend to lean towards figures from 16 to 18 aircraft.
In February 2024, during the visit of the President of Russia to the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ), it was announced that the enterprise should produce 10 new Tu-160M2s by 2027 inclusive. Also, no one removed the issue of modernizing previously produced machines to the Tu-160M version.
Thus, it can be assumed that the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2027 will have approximately 10 completely new Tu-160M2s and at least 15 deeply modernized Tu-160Ms.
