The air conditioner in a car may not work well for several reasons. For example, due to refrigerant leakage, condenser failure, or compressor malfunction. This was stated by Vadim Strelbitsky, Director of the Mechanical Repair Department of Avilon Kia.
Over time, the sealing elements, gaskets, and air conditioner connections lose their tightness, especially on cars with high mileage. As a result, the system gradually loses refrigerant, which affects the quality of air cooling.
In addition, the condenser often becomes clogged with dust and fluff, which negatively affects heat exchange and can lead to overheating and automatic shutdown of the system. In some cases, this can cause corrosion, which, in turn, leads to cracks and additional refrigerant leaks.
The compressor is the most important component in the air conditioning system. If it fails, the air conditioner stops working. The causes of the failure can be different: natural wear of parts, contamination of the system, oil leakage, or mechanical damage.
You should also not forget about the cabin filter. If it is dirty or clogged, this can lead to limited airflow, reduced cooling system efficiency, and unpleasant odors in the cabin, as the expert emphasized.
The evaporator is an important but vulnerable element of the system. Dirt and bacteria can accumulate in it, which leads to poor cooling and an unpleasant odor.
