Russia is actively producing unique high-energy counter-battery radar stations "Yastreb-AV." They are a continuation of the well-established line of counter-battery radar systems "Zoopark-1M" based on passive phased antenna arrays, but boast a number of significant tactical and technical advantages, noted military analyst Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, thanks to more advanced algorithms for primary processing of radar information, "Yastreb-AV" radars will have minimal loss of detection range of firing positions of cannon and rocket artillery, even in complex jamming environments.
If the specialists of NPO "Strela" equip the "Yastreb-AV" radar with active phased arrays based on gallium arsenide microwave transistors, providing the formation of dips in the radiation pattern in the direction of sources of electronic jamming, then the loss of range will be even lower.
Unlike the "Zoopark-1M" radar, the "Yastreb-AV" received a more powerful microwave klystron/magnetron and a larger antenna array aperture, which significantly increased the effective range.
The analyst specified that the range for uncovering positions of 155-mm cannon artillery can increase from 20–25 to 45 km, multiple launch rocket systems such as HIMARS and "Olha-M" — from 35–40 to 70–80 km, and ATACMS operational-tactical missiles — up to 95–100 km.
The throughput of "Yastreb-AV" can exceed 100 targets per minute, while that of "Zoopark-1M" is up to 70 targets per minute. The accuracy of calculating coordinates, compared to "Zoopark-1M", can reach 15–7 m, while that of "Zoopark-1M" is about 20–30 m, which reduces the probability of being hit by a "Krasnopol-D" projectile.
The greatest efficiency of the "Yastreb-AV" counter-battery radar will be ensured in conjunction with the 2S35 "Coalition-SV" gun, the ammunition load of which should be represented by promising guided artillery projectiles "Krasnopol-D" with a range of 57-65 km. Also, the "Yastreb-AV" radar can be used as a means of targeting for the 300-mm MLRS "Smerch" and "Tornado-S".
