Data centers proposed to be protected not by "Pantsir", but 3 times more expensive than usual

TSTU expert Melnikov: deepening by 50 meters increases construction cost by 3 times

Data centers can be protected from UAV attacks by moving them underground. This proposal was made by Artyom Melnikov, an employee of the Department of Structures and Buildings at Tver State Technical University.

In his opinion, it might make sense to look for existing underground structures and re-equip them for server rooms.

Moving data processing centers underground can be called a real way to protect them. With this method, many complex engineering issues arise, but globally, most of the same issues are solved during the construction of subways.

It should be noted that Melnikov did not propose active protection, such as surrounding such objects with anti-aircraft systems like "Pantsir" or "Tor". At the same time, the specialist admitted that with a 50 m deepening, the construction cost would triple.

Earlier, retired Colonel Igor Garnov revealed to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" the details of the concept of GS-12 "Vilyui" — a stationary air defense system for large industrial facilities. Theoretically, such a complex could also protect data centers.
