Ministry of Digital Development helped Yandex relocate key systems after attacks on three data centers

The company continues to restore damaged infrastructure

The Ministry of Digital Development helped Yandex find sites to relocate key systems after drone attacks on three of the company's data centers. This allowed part of the infrastructure to be promptly placed in other locations, said Maksut Shadayev, head of the department.

According to the minister, some systems were quickly transferred to pre-prepared backup capacities. Distributing infrastructure across different sites helped reduce dependence on individual objects and maintain service operation in case of serious damage.

Yandex does not disclose where its computing capacities are now located. The company reported that it has long been developing distributed infrastructure and redundancy, including using independent sites.

The attacks affected Yandex data centers in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, Kaluga, and Vladimir. After the damage to the facilities, disruptions occurred not only in the company's own services but also for organizations using its server capacities. Restoration work is ongoing, and the remaining systems are being moved to third-party sites.

On October 12, Shadayev also stated that the Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Defense are working on protecting data centers. According to his assessment, after the incident, demand for new data processing centers located in more secure places may increase.
