Yakovlev patented a folding frame for transporting large MS-21 and SJ-100 parts and assemblies

Removable cradles secure fuselage panels and mechanization elements, while the folding frame reduces dimensions for return

PAO Yakovlev, which produces MS-21 and SJ-100 passenger aircraft, has patented a folding transport module for transporting large aircraft parts. The design is intended for delivering fuselage panels, flaps, and wing mechanization elements by road and rail.

The main objective of the development is to protect parts from damage during transportation and loading/unloading operations, and at the same time reduce the cost of returning empty equipment. After delivery, the cargo cradles are removed, the upper elements of the frame are folded, and part of the structure is disassembled and placed on the remaining platform. Moving the module to the transport position does not require locksmith tools.

The device is based on two longitudinal frames connected by three transverse ones. Inside, cradles with supporting and clamping surfaces are installed, repeating the shape of the transported parts. This helps to fix the aviation elements and prevent their displacement and vibration during transit.

Additional protection is provided by flooring, end barriers, and corner restrictors. At the ends of the frame, upper and lower U-shaped arches are provided, connecting the longitudinal parts of the structure. Foldable rack extensions reduce the height of the module during loading and folding.

The device can be secured to the cargo platform of a truck or railway car. For transportation by rail on an open platform, additional protection of the cargo from atmospheric influences will be required.
