A diagram of the PD-8V turboshaft engine for heavy helicopters of the Mi-26 family was shown at a presentation during the “RazvITie 2026” forum, held annually by ASCON (developer of KOMPAS-3D and other engineering software). The footage was published by the “Vertolyotiki” Telegram channel.
Judging by the footage, this is precisely a turboshaft variant intended for heavy rotorcraft. The PD-8V is being designed using ASCON software.
The development is being carried out by the Samara enterprise ODC-Kuznetsov. The new engine will replace the Ukrainian-made D-136 and will become a fully Russian power plant with a FADEC digital control system. Development is scheduled to be completed by 2031, with the PD-8V's power stated to be 15% higher, while fuel efficiency will be better.
