KAMAZ has signed a contract with the Malian company SMTL-SA for the supply of trucks and the creation of infrastructure for their maintenance. The deal is worth 30 billion West African francs, equivalent to $51.5 million.
In addition to equipment supplies, repair and maintenance workshops will be established in the capital of Mali. The parties are also discussing organizing truck assembly in the country. Plans include the supply of spare parts, technology transfer, and training of Malian specialists in Kazan.
Which KAMAZ trucks are in demand in Africa
The greatest interest for African states is the KAMAZ-43118 (6×6) flatbed all-wheel drive truck. Engineers have adapted the time-tested model for operation in hot countries. Thanks to its all-wheel drive and fording capability, the truck can be operated in complete off-road conditions during the rainy season. This modification is used by international organizations, including the UN World Food Programme. The vehicles are used to deliver humanitarian aid in Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Central African Republic.
Also relevant for Africa is the KAMAZ-54901 tractor unit — a flagship for high-speed long-haul transportation, and the NEFAZ-5299 low-floor bus with an automatic transmission, designed for 111 passengers. The bus is relevant for rapidly growing cities.
