AI in Moscow Region analyzed 725 thousand images for radiologists

The system suggests where to look for pathologies, but the decision remains with the specialist

Since the beginning of the year, the AI assistant in the Moscow Region has helped radiologists analyze over 725 thousand medical images. The system automatically processes images from X-ray machines, mammographs, and fluorographs and highlights areas requiring detailed study, the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region told TASS.

Artificial intelligence is used as an additional tool for radiation diagnostics. It helps the doctor work with a large volume of studies and not miss potentially significant changes. The final conclusion and decision on the examination tactics are made by a medical specialist, not an algorithm.

The workload on radiologists is growing: one doctor reviews hundreds of images per shift, and fatigue increases the risk of missing pathology. AI takes on the initial selection and marking of suspicious areas. This does not replace the specialist but reduces the time spent on routine tasks. In the Moscow Region, the system is used on a large scale, and the volume of 725 thousand images shows that AI in diagnostics has moved from experiments to daily practice.
