The Russian Ministry of Defence has patented the design of an armor-piercing sub-caliber projectile with three support nodes. The development is intended to reduce oscillations of the munition as it moves through the barrel and distribute the load along its length.
The department explained the problem of long projectiles, which experience increased loads during firing. Oscillations can lead to bending of the body and even destruction of the munition inside the barrel or upon exiting it.
In the new design, the projectile receives three spaced support points: in the front, central, and rear parts.
They should ensure more uniform movement along the barrel bore. The developers paid special attention to the driving device, parts of which separate after the projectile exits.
