New 300 kW engine for air taxi increased service life by 30 times

The power plant will be tested at the end of 2027

Designers from the Moscow Aviation Institute have developed a new engine for air taxis based on the MD-150 turbojet. The service life of the power plant has been increased by at least 30 times, MAI representatives said.

If the continuous operation capabilities of the engine previously ranged from 50–100 hours, now this figure is around 3000 hours. The power plant's output will be up to 300 kW with the possibility of increasing it to 350 kW.

The installation will reduce the weight of the aircraft by reducing the weight of the batteries. The saved payload can be used to install additional equipment or increase fuel reserves.

Preliminarily, the engine can be used as a power drive for small helicopters, light manned aircraft, or air taxis. However, the date of the first tests is still far off — at the end of 2027.
