Gazprom and Lukoil have launched oil production at the Layavozhskoye field in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Pilot industrial operation was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak. The work is being carried out by the joint venture "Layavozhneftegaz".
The facility already has a full initial cycle in operation: liquid hydrocarbon production and treatment facilities, a shipping system, roads, a power center, and a temporary residential complex. This allows for immediate stable volumes and ensures safe operation in the Far North. The pilot industrial stage should confirm the design parameters of the reservoir, test operating modes, and collect data for further growth.
The partnership between the two companies on a parity basis has been developing since 2014. Combining competencies helps reduce risks and accelerate capital-intensive Arctic projects. For the NAO, the launch provides jobs, development of contractors and the transport network, as well as growth in the tax base.
The next step is full-scale development with infrastructure for gas and condensate. The success of the pilot stage will open the way for increasing production. Special attention is paid to equipment reliability, environmental protection, and infrastructure sustainability in the harsh climate.
The total recoverable reserves of the Layavozhskoye and neighboring Vaneivisskoye fields are estimated at 27.4 million tons of liquid hydrocarbons and 225.3 billion cubic meters of gas – this is a significant resource for the Timan-Pechora province, where a significant part of the reserves is still awaiting development.
