Russia is ready to transfer the source code of the onboard computer and radar of the Su-57E to India. This will allow Indians to integrate their weapons themselves without involving Russian firms, IDRW agency reported.
India wanted to purchase 40 Su-57Es under an intergovernmental agreement. However, Russia insists that for local production to start, a commitment for at least 140 aircraft is needed – otherwise, the commercial part of the project will not cover the re-equipment of the HAL line in Nashik.
India can decide whether it wants to procure single- or two-seat aircraft that can be modified to operate Loyal Wingman unmanned aerial vehicles and Combat UCAVs for deep strike missions.
HAL Corporation confirmed that there are capabilities for Su-57 production in India, but this will require additional funding.
