The Ministry of Transport plans to scale up biometric boarding on railways and at airports. This year, Nizhny Novgorod will connect to the system, and five more air hubs have expressed interest, the Deputy Minister of Transport announced at the 'Digital Solutions' forum.
Deputy Minister of Transport Vladimir Poteshkin stated that the service is especially needed on high-speed trains. At Nizhny Novgorod Airport, the system will be launched by the end of 2026. Five more airports have already expressed a desire to connect to the biometric system. Self-registration terminals using biometrics are already operating at Sheremetyevo.
Biometrics reduces boarding time: passengers do not need to present documents; it is enough to look into the camera. For high-speed trains, this is critical — on the Moscow — St. Petersburg route, every minute counts. However, scaling requires data protection: biometrics must be stored and processed according to strict rules, otherwise the system will become a target for leaks.
