Ust-Katav Plant Produced 38 Trams with Roscosmos Technologies

Low floor, climate control, and GLONASS are already in the cabins of new cars

The Ust-Katav Car-Building Plant (UKVZ) produced 38 trams in 2026. Another 20 cars will be delivered to Russian cities by the end of the year. The enterprise is part of the Roscosmos structure and transfers developments from the rocket and space industry to urban transport.

From 2019 to 2025, the plant supplied 683 trams to 14 cities. The new cars received a low floor, smart climate control, USB connectors, video surveillance of the road and cabin, as well as a driver condition monitoring system — it signals when concentration is lost. GLONASS, connected to the Russian satellite constellation, allows tracking vehicles on the map.

The UKVZ design is suitable for existing urban infrastructure. This saves the budget on replacing rail tracks. Loading the capacities of the rocket and space enterprise with civilian orders gives a double effect: the plant does not stand idle, and citizens receive high technologies in everyday transport. The plant is already producing three-section tram cars.
