Separators-superheaters installed on the BREST-OD-300 reactor with liquid lead

By the end of the year, the turbine foundation will be completed and turbine installation will begin at the Seversk site

At the construction site in Seversk, large-sized heat exchange equipment for the machine hall of the power unit with the innovative BREST-OD-300 reactor has been installed in its design position. This refers to separators-superheaters.

BREST-OD-300 is the world's first power unit with a fast neutron reactor and lead coolant. Its capacity is 300 MW. For the first time in world practice, molten lead will be used as a coolant, and the core will be fully loaded with dense nitride uranium-plutonium fuel .

The reactor is being built in Seversk at the site of the Siberian Chemical Combine as part of the "Proryv" (Breakthrough) project. The main goal is to create a closed nuclear fuel cycle, where spent fuel is reprocessed and reused .

Why are separators-superheaters needed?

This equipment is installed at two-loop nuclear power plants. Its task is to prepare steam for the low-pressure cylinder of the turbine. This protects the blading from erosion by water droplets and increases the efficiency of the entire steam turbine unit.

By the end of the year, it is planned to complete the construction of the turbine foundation and begin the installation of the power unit's turbine at the site.
