The TU2 locomotive No. 092 returned to the Sverdlovsk Children's Railway after repairs. This very machine opened traffic on the Small Main Line in 1960 and, decades later, has retained its status as an operational retro locomotive. In late September, specialists conducted a trial run with the participation of students and railway management.
The repairs were carried out by specialists from "ZHD Retro-Service". They checked the diesel engine, braking system, and auxiliary machines, updated the fuel system, and restored the locomotive's historical dark green livery.
The TU2 is a four-axle freight-passenger diesel locomotive with electric transmission, designed for a 750 mm narrow gauge. Locomotives of this series were produced between 1955 and 1959, with about 300 machines built in total. For the children's railway, TU2 No. 092 is valuable not only for its age: it was with this locomotive that the history of the Sverdlovsk Small Main Line began.
Currently, the locomotive is used as a retro machine on the children's railway, which operates year-round. In summer, the TU2 transports passengers, and in winter, the railway becomes a training ground for young railway workers. No. 092 itself is also listed as a technical monument and an exhibit of the Museum of Narrow-Gauge Technology in Yekaterinburg.
