India will have to create its own maintenance system for Il-114-300

Naval aviation veteran: without local repair and spare parts, it will be difficult to operate the Russian aircraft in the country

The Il-114-300 will only be able to establish itself in the Indian market if there is a domestic maintenance system in the country. This was stated by Indian naval aviation veteran Mandeep S. He served in the Air Force for more than 20 years and is well acquainted with Russian Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft.

According to him, after the delivery of the aircraft, India will need to establish repairs, spare parts supply, technical support, and specialist training. The country already has extensive personnel experience working with Soviet and Russian aviation equipment, which can also be useful in mastering the new Russian turboprop.

The first steps in this direction have already been taken. In January, OAK and Indian Flamingo Aerospace signed a framework agreement for six Il-114-300s. The document provides for the study of not only deliveries, but also possible assembly of aircraft in India, their modification, maintenance, repair, personnel training, and the development of the necessary infrastructure. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028 after final agreements are concluded and permits are obtained.

In September, OAK also announced agreements with Indian companies for the supply of 85 Il-114-300s. The corporation formulates this precisely as a planned volume of deliveries, and not as 85 already completed orders.

The Russian regional aircraft received its type certificate in June 2026. The Il-114-300 is equipped with TV7-117ST-01 turboprop engines, the readiness of which for serial production was previously confirmed by the United Engine Corporation.

For India, the issue of service is especially important due to the intended operation of the Il-114-300 on regional routes. The aircraft is designed for transportation between small airfields, so downtime due to a lack of spare parts or repair facilities can directly affect flight regularity.

“Pervy Tekhnichesky” in a large article analyzed who exactly will receive the aircraft. Spoiler – these airlines did not engage in civil transportation.
