Engineers from the North Caucasus invented an engine with a comb-shaped piston

The design by the Urusov brothers should make the fuel mixture mix directly inside the piston

Engineers from Cherkessk, Valery and Timur Urusov, developed an internal combustion engine scheme in which the piston received a comb-shaped bottom with holes, and the intake and exhaust valves are located opposite each other. This combination should improve cylinder filling and exhaust gas removal.

A protruding comb with vertical holes was provided on the piston bottom. As the piston moves, streams of fuel-air mixture pass through them, creating additional mixing.

The Urusovs expect that the heated surfaces of the comb and the walls of the holes will transfer heat to the fresh charge during the compression stroke. This should contribute to a more uniform mixing of the mixture before ignition.

The second unusual feature of the engine is the opposed arrangement of the intake and exhaust valves. Each cylinder has two intake and two exhaust valves. The exhaust valves have hemispherical plates, and the intake valves have a concave shape.
