The small-tonnage tanker "Konstantinovsk" (Project 621, type "Lenaneft") and the main tugboat No. 1213 (Project 07521, type MB) with a barge ran aground on the Volga River near Gorodets. The Nizhny Novgorod Transport Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident, the press service of the Volga Transport Prosecutor's Office reported.
According to the prosecutor's office, the incident occurred on the night of October 3 at the 861st and 862nd km of the Volga. As a result of the incident, vessel traffic in this section has been blocked.
There are no oil spills, and no casualties.
Employees of the Nizhny Novgorod Transport Prosecutor's Office are conducting a safety investigation. Specialists have begun work to remove the tanker, tugboat, and barge from the sandbank, the supervisory agency summarized.
The Gorodets shipping channel, with a length of 40 km, is one of the most problematic sections of the waterway on the Volga. Due to erosion of the riverbed below the Nizhny Novgorod HPP, the design depth here often decreases.
