Russian specialists have prepared a robotic complex that can treat brain tumors with focused ultrasound without incisions or opening the skull. The technology is being prepared for mass production.
The complex was developed by the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnologies of the FMBA of Russia in cooperation with an industrial partner. Unlike solutions designed only for deep structures, the Russian system will be able to affect more superficial areas of the brain as well.
In cooperation with an industrial partner, a robotic complex has been developed that is capable of affecting not only deep but also more superficial areas of the brain. At the same time, due to ultrasonic navigation, the device has high accuracy, which will allow it to be used in any neurosurgical operating room. The complex is currently being prepared for production.
The technology is based on focused ultrasound. The system must direct the impact to a given area of the brain with high precision, without resorting to traditional surgical access through the skull.
The developers consider the complex as a tool for treating tumors and other brain pathologies. However, specific dates for the start of mass production and the characteristics of the complex are not disclosed in the message.
In parallel, Russian specialists are developing other neurosurgical technologies: they are studying the use of thermoreceptors to affect neurons in focal forms of epilepsy and creating methods for bioprinting brain tissues with a given architecture.
