In Russia, vehicles of the timber industry are actively being connected to the state information system ERA-GLONASS. Since January 2025, navigation control equipment has been installed on more than 120,000 vehicles, the GLONASS press service reported.
The GLONASS company automates the interaction of forestry equipment operators when working with the Federal State Information System of the Forestry Complex (FGIS LK). This reduces the likelihood of errors due to the human factor, the press service explained.
Krasnoyarsk Krai ranks first in the number of special equipment connections to ERA-GLONASS (more than 6.6 thousand units). Satellite navigation equipment is also actively being installed on vehicles of logging enterprises in the Siberian, Volga, and Northwestern federal districts. In total, these 3 districts account for over 65 thousand units.
The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, by order No. 121 dated 21.02.2022, approved the procedure for equipping vehicles used for timber transportation by road, and equipment for extinguishing forest fires with technical control means. Intelligent equipment helps track the route of equipment from logging to removal, increase the traceability of timber transportation, and identify violations during its harvesting and movement.
