The unmanned boat "Heroes of "Tuman"" covered about 300 km from Teriberka to ZATO Ostrovnoy on the Barents Sea coast. On board were medicines, marketplace orders, and other goods. This was reported by the Governor of Murmansk Oblast, Andrey Chibis.
Artificial intelligence was used to plot the route and correct navigational interference. The vessel's payload capacity is up to 1 ton, and the developer is Murmansk-based NPK "Progress". According to the governor, the voyage was the world's first unmanned sea crossing with cargo beyond the Arctic Circle.
The boat is named after the patrol ship "Tuman", which sank in the Barents Sea in 1941. NPK "Progress" is a resident of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation with plans to produce up to 1.5 thousand units per month.
According to Chibis, marine drones will not replace passenger transportation but will significantly optimize logistics costs. For Ostrovnoy, which has no land connection, such voyages reduce dependence on expensive delivery.
