The PIK reactor in Gatchina will soon commission 25 experimental stations. They will become the basis for conducting a wide range of neutron flux research, said Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
According to him, the stations are being introduced this year at the site of the Konstantinov Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute.
Already this year, at the Kurchatov Institute site in Gatchina, we are commissioning 25 stations at the PIK reactor — the most powerful research neutron reactor in the world.
PIK is a high-flux research reactor designed for neutron experiments. Most of the key components of the facility have already been developed, manufactured, and tested.
At the same time, the Kurchatov Institute is deploying other large scientific facilities. In Protvino, the SILA complex is being created with a 6 billion electronvolt synchrotron and a free-electron X-ray laser.
