Specialists of the Ural Diesel Engine Plant (OOO "UDMZ") have completed acceptance tests of the 12DM-185 diesel engine. It was prepared for operation as part of a fracturing fleet pump unit for oil production. This was reported by the press service of the Sinara – Transport Machines company.
During the tests, the engine reached its nominal mode and delivered a maximum power of 1860 kW. The acceptance committee confirmed that the unit meets the declared technical specifications.
The 12DM-185 model is the most mass-produced in the DM-185 line (manufactured at UDMZ). It is installed on BelAZ dump trucks with a carrying capacity of up to 240 tons, and it will equip the promising TEM885 shunting-hauling locomotive.
To adapt the 12DM-185 for the fracturing fleet, designers replaced 2 high-pressure fuel pumps with one. Specialists also developed a flywheel housing to ensure a sealed connection with the power take-off unit.
The diesel engine is adapted for operation at low temperatures. The power unit has already been sent to the customer at one of the fields in Western Siberia.
The hydraulic fracturing (fracking) method is used to increase the inflow of oil, gas, or water from a well, creating artificial fractures in the rock. Typical fracking equipment (fleet) includes up to 20 technological units on a truck chassis, including diesel pump units, automated control stations, and tanks for gel and proppant (filler).
