The Indian aerospace corporation Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) possesses a significant part of the infrastructure and personnel necessary for the potential production of the Russian fifth-generation fighter Su-57. This was stated by HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi Kotta in an interview with The Tribune.
According to him, about 40% of the necessary infrastructure already exists due to HAL's experience in producing the Su-30MKI. However, additional investments will be required to launch Su-57 production.
India has most of the necessary production facilities and skilled technical personnel.
India has been discussing with Russia the purchase of Su-57 and local production for at least two years, but wants to receive a report on the project cost. In parallel, India is arguing with France about providing the source code for their Rafale, which is delaying the purchase of large batches.
Recently, "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" in a review article compared the combat capabilities of the Su-57 and Rafale, the winner was not entirely unambiguous.
