The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has demonstrated an active protection system with all-round vision and interceptors. The platform was not officially named, but it could be the T-90S “Bhishma”, according to the IDRW agency.
The main feature is four X-band radar panels located around the turret. They should provide the crew with 360-degree all-round vision and allow them to detect approaching anti-tank munitions.
Two rotating launchers are shown on the turret roof. Each carries two interceptors and provides a sector of about 180 degrees. The elevation angle reaches 90 degrees, which allows covering the vehicle from different directions.
The declared interception distance is 20–50 meters from the tank. The system is designed to counter ATGMs, grenade launcher munitions, HEAT and APFSDS munitions.
In parallel with the modernization of the T-90, India is ready to repair combat vehicles of this type for international operators. The Republic expects its offer to be more profitable than Russia's.
