The Crimean plant "Fiolent" has developed an unusual electric motor design where the casing and magnet fixing elements are made of a lightweight, non-magnetic material. This approach is intended to reduce the machine's mass and increase its specific power.
In a traditional design, the casing can perform several functions simultaneously, including participating in the magnetic flux path.
The magnetic flux is conducted by separate annular magnetic cores made of steel, while the casing itself is made, for example, of aluminum alloy or plastic.
Inside, there is a disc-shaped rotor with a flat winding, and permanent magnets are located on both sides of it. Their fields should sum up in the working gap.
Collectively, the use of lightweight materials for the casing, a minimal set of elements, and a minimal casing size will ensure the minimum mass of the motor while maintaining its power, noted "Fiolent".
The design also uses high-coercivity magnets, including strontium ferrite or neodymium-iron-boron variants.
