For the first time, a separate GOST standard for automotive carburetors will appear in Russia. The new rules will come into force in March 2027. For each device model, manufacturers will have to establish reliability indicators, and the carburetor itself will require an assembly drawing agreed upon with the customer.
A carburetor is a device in an engine that mixes gasoline with air. The resulting combustible mixture enters the engine and, when burned, drives the car.
According to the new standard, carburetors will be divided into different types by design, adjustment methods, and operating principle. For each model, the manufacturer must have an assembly drawing agreed upon with the customer. It must show the dimensions of the device, its technical characteristics, and product requirements.
Separately, the GOST standard establishes requirements for the condition of parts. The fuel supply valve in the float chamber must be sealed when closed and must not restrict engine fuel flow when open. Body parts that come into contact with gasoline must also be sealed.
The carburetor must not have dents, nicks, cracks, corrosion, or other defects that affect the quality or appearance of the device. Reliability indicators must also be determined for each model.
The document also contains maintenance requirements. Carburetors that previously ran on leaded gasoline must be neutralized for 10–20 minutes before disassembly or flushing to remove certain chemical compounds.
When installing the carburetor on the engine and after cleaning and flushing, the fasteners must be tightened evenly. Fuel should be used to flush carburetor parts.
The GOST standard will apply to carburetors of motor vehicle engines. However, carburetors for engines used in technical sports, engines operating only on compressed and liquefied gas, rotary-piston engines, and engines manufactured under licenses will not fall under the new rules.
