Lyulka Design Bureau Develops 6-Stage Supersonic Engine Stator

The new HPC features supersonic blade profiles for the first two stages and an adjustable inlet

Designers at the Lyulka Bureau have developed a new stator for the high-pressure compressor of a gas turbine engine. The power structure encompasses 6 stages of guide vanes, with supersonic blade profiles used in the first two stages, while the subsequent four stages use subsonic profiles.

Engineers are confident that this combination will improve the compressor's efficiency and gas-dynamic stability. The inlet guide vane and the first-stage guide vane feature adjustable blades, allowing for changes in flow parameters depending on the engine's operating mode.

A distinctive feature of the development lies in its design approach. Specialists account for actual deviations in part geometry, radial and axial clearances, manufacturing tolerances, and operational deformations to minimize their impact on HPC characteristics.

The stator casing was made detachable in two parts, which should simplify assembly and repair. Inspection windows are also provided for viewing the flow path without complete disassembly of the unit.
