MPEI, together with Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and Transneft-ElectrosetService, has created an industrial complex of digital twins for oil pumping stations. The complex combines two models – power supply and pumping process – the university's press service reported.
The power grid twin simulates the operation of the power system in real time, calculates short-circuit currents, analyzes the operation of relay protection and automation, and predicts emergency shutdowns. The technological process twin calculates parameters at each pumping node, reproduces transient processes and the system's response to changes in fluid flow, composition, temperature, and pressure, and takes into account the dynamics of accumulation and consumption in tanks.
The connection is provided by co-simulation: both models run simultaneously and exchange data via a digital protocol. This allows seeing how a short circuit in the distribution network affects pumps and pressure in the oil pipeline, and vice versa – how a hydraulic shock affects electric motors.
The complex's operability was tested by specialists from Transneft-ElectrosetService.
