Designers from St. Petersburg, Yuri and Gleb Bezrukov, have developed an unusual combination of an airplane and a quadcopter. The aircraft-type apparatus features a reverse-swept wing, with 4 fans integrated into its root section.
The engineers have provided for a non-standard blade design. In one section, they create lift, while in the area of a special "snail" with a flat jet nozzle, they generate thrust for forward movement and maneuvering. The geometry of the nozzle can be changed.
The patent proposes two variants for the power plant. The first uses a generator, a hydraulic turbine, compressed air cylinders, and tanks with non-freezing liquid. The second is based on electric motors and hydrogen fuel cells with the possibility of energy recuperation during descent and braking.
From the editors of "Pervy Tekhnichesky": unfortunately, the Bezrukovs did not provide a diagram for their development, but the concept embodies a combination of the most capricious aviation technologies. Unlike the F-35B fighter with one fan in the fuselage, this proposal suggests embedding four rotors at once.
In practice, huge through-holes in the wing root would critically weaken the structure, which already suffers from torsional loads. Add utopian hydrogen elements with recuperation, and the result is an extremely complex and fragile apparatus, whose chances of moving beyond the drawing board are close to zero.
