The dry cargo ship "Russkiy Vostok" broke from its anchorage in the Amur Bay, after which the vessel was carried to the Tokarevsky lighthouse and ran aground. It is noteworthy that back in June, the Primorsky Transport Prosecutor's Office, through the court, demanded that the owner ensure the safe mooring of the same vessel – the corresponding lawsuit is still pending.
According to the investigation, the incident occurred on September 7. At the time of the incident, there was no crew or cargo on board, so there were no casualties. No water pollution was recorded either, but experts must assess the possible damage, and the investigative body is conducting a procedural check under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on violation of safety rules for the movement and operation of sea transport.
The "Russkiy Vostok" itself is not a new vessel of a Russian project. It is a universal dry cargo ship, built in Japan at the Hamamoto Shipbuilding shipyard in Tokushima on November 11, 1991, construction number 757. Initially, the vessel was named Myotoku Maru, in July 2016 it received the name "Russkiy Vostok", and from September of the same year it sailed under the Russian flag and was assigned to Vladivostok; in 2020, Korsakov became its home port.
The vessel is about 57.5 m long, 9.2 m wide, has a gross tonnage of about 675 registered tons and IMO 9033048. According to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, it belongs to universal cargo vessels and has ice class Ice1. Open data also indicates that the "Russkiy Vostok" was used to deliver goods from Vladivostok to the Kuril Islands.
