India has tested a new long-range glide bomb, the Khagantak-243, for Su-30MKI fighters, capable of hitting targets more than 140 km from the drop point. This was reported by the IDRW agency.
The Khagantak-243 belongs to the Long Range Glide Bomb class and weighs approximately 300 kg. When launched from an altitude of about 12 km, the munition glides to the target without its own cruise engine, using the lift of its folding wings and a control system.
The bomb was developed by India's JSR Dynamics and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The first company is responsible for the body and control systems, the second for electronics and guidance. The munition can be equipped with an Mk 81 warhead weighing 125 kg.
The Indian side further considered integrating the munition with other aircraft, including carrier-based MiG-29Ks.
Earlier it became known that the Russian military industry earned about 15 billion dollars from the supply and production of Su-30MKI in India.
