"IKS Holding" will invest over 35 billion rubles in two new microelectronics production facilities in Primorsky Krai. By 2030, they plan to produce up to 5 million microchips and 500 thousand photovoltaic converters annually – primarily for Yadro and "Bureau 1440" telecom and space equipment.
The enterprises will produce microwave components – microchips and semiconductor elements for signal transmission and processing – as well as photovoltaic converters, which are used, among other things, to power spacecraft. The planned capacity is up to 5 million microchips and 500 thousand converters per year.
The main consumers will be the holding's own companies – Yadro and "Bureau 1440", which are engaged in telecommunications and satellite equipment. In the future, the new sites are intended to become the basis for a larger national microelectronics cluster.
Primorye was not chosen by chance. Its proximity to China simplifies the supply of components and materials and allows for savings on logistics. However, the region also has drawbacks: seismic activity, high humidity, and remoteness from major customers in the European part of Russia could make production more expensive.
You can build a factory, install the most modern equipment, but if there is no one to work on it, such investments will not bring any benefit.
Experts note that building a shell is not enough. Stable chip production requires complex equipment, clean rooms, materials, and specialists. Access to these resources will largely determine how quickly the new factories can reach full-scale serial production.
